More Knitting in Art!

This one is by an artist named Emile Munier (1840-1895) from the mid 1800's.

Jean-Francois Millet (1814-1875) painted this famous picture titled "The Knitting Lesson" about 1854.

Here's one by Albert Neuhuijs, a Dutch painter(1844-1914). For english sites about his work, check for Albert Neuhuys.

This is a print from Currier and Ives.

Mary... love the art :) Love the knitting too!
I am hoping to convince Dh to take me to the yarn store for some cotton... I have my eyes on making myself something. Or maybe my daughter... or someone who is having a boy baby...
Any ideas what to make for a boy baby in Texas? Due next month?? :D
I'm thinking he'll get something designed for when he is about 6 months old.. *lol*

Donna Marie -- there are some great kids books out there which make it very easy for adults to learn. Melanie Falick's "Kids Knitting" is an excellent starter.....for both you and your daughter.

Another great "read" is the classic "Knitting Without Tears" by Elizabeth Zimmermann. It's chatty and she gets a neophyte to relax and just take it easy.....

I'll post abut other "must haves", but those should get ou started.

Spinneretta,

I'd make something using TLC "Cotton Plus" -- available at most of the chain craft stores. It's a cotton/acrylic blend from Coats and Clarks -- knits easy and holds up great. A nice blanket would be cozy -- not so much for warmth as for "cozying".....

Hope this helps.

Yes, I thought about a 'blankie'...
Now I need to go dig out the EZ Knitter's almanac and look at her pattern :) THANKS!
